Monday Element Books pages
We will be working on our Elements of Art book. This is your first real Project, so make it good! This is your chance to show me how thorough you can be. I have made extra booklets for people who are absent, but if you plan on an extended absence, you can make your own: just fold 3 sheets of white computer paper (your pages) inside 1 sheet of colored paper (your cover).
Make a nice cover that says "The Elements of Art". Your first page can be a Table of Contents listing these 7 elements: Line Shape Form Space Value Texture Color

Happy Friday!
Today we are finishing up our Photographers unit and studying the last two people we will look at this quarter: Diane Arbus and Richard Avedon. I'll show you some of their images and talk a little about them, and then you will do some reading and quick questions about their work.
Add Richard Avedon- popular in 1955 and Diane Arbus- first major show 1967 to your Timeline
NOTE: ADD #5 to Diane Arbus: What is your opinion of her work? Some people really like her, and some really don't!
If you're finished early you can look up Mary Ellen Mark, whose work is similar to Diane Arbus.

Progress reports are due next Wednesday! Check your Aeries
Today, we will continue yesterday's research, which will give us a list of 8 sentences- one containing an important high point in the career for each photographer we already know.
Transfer these dates on to your big TIMELINE.
Tomorrow will be our last day of history, and then we will move on to The Elements of Art!
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY TONIGHT:
Just write a paragraph for each business you visit which
includes names of some things you saw, what they looked like,
what you thought of the art. Basically, tell me about your
experience. You can get credits per paragraph, per business.

LAST DAY TO MAKE UP QUIZZES
It has been over a week, including accounting for my own absence on Friday.
We will be finishing the Powerpoints today, adding one last slide which will be our opinion piece. Which artist is your favorite from this group, and WHY? Also, which artist is probably your least favorite, and WHY?
We will correctly name our Powerpoints, and turn them in on the M:/
Finally, we will spend the rest of the period doing a little research on the important dates for each Photographer. If you skim their biography, what year seems to be the most important in their career as a photographer? What approximate date were they the most popular, have their biggest exhibition, or win a coveted spot on the staff of LIFE Magazine?
For example, Julia Margaret Cameron worked from 1864-1875. I can take the average and say "Julia Margaret Cameron was popular in 1870." Or, I can mention that "Gordon Parks won a position at LIFE Magazine in 1948" because that would have been a major turning point in a photographer's popularity.
I will number my paper 1-8 and write a simple sentence (suitable to add to my timeline later) for each person, similar to my example above.

SCAVENGER HUNT
Open your PowerPoint to study before we go out!
Hints and Rules:
1. Remember no picture will EVER require you to enter an office or classroom. All images are visible from the outside, except number 5, which requires you to walk inside a HALLWAY. You will never go inside a building with people in it. We do not want to bother staff.
2. Please please do not touch images! My intention is for this to be fun for all the classes, all day long.
3. At least 1 person in the group should have a phone to watch the time.
4. NO FIRST NAMES! Its both names or last name only.
5. Other classrooms are in session. Make your way calmly and quietly through campus.
HINT: Number 4 is by the R buildings

Today we are creating a PowerPoint of 8 slides. Each slide will be one of the 8 artists we looked at in the book, during the text scavenger hunt.
Each slide will list the artist, a summary of their work, and enough pictures to fill the slide and look good. The summary is NOT something you get off Wikipedia or the Book. I want YOUR summary. Look at Google Image search of the artist and tell me what YOU SEE. What type of things did they photograph? How would you describe this person's work. What does it look like to you?
